Empowerment for Active Citizenship
Our mission is to build a bridge between the theoretical dimension (competency concept and validation frameworks), societal impact (socio-political dimension) and the concrete working fields of actors in formal and non-formal education (field dimension). We want to make concrete methodology accessible, help with the planning of trainings and empowerment programs, and target facilitators and educators that have less experience or are less involved in the European and national discourses on non-formal education, didactical principles or identification of competency development. We believe, that innovative competency centered education is following a bottom-up approach. Change starts with empowering facilitators.
Handbooks for Facilitators
The handbooks for facilitators, teacher, trainers, animators or any other educator are published as PDFs and hard copies. They present our experience and methods and aim to support with a balance of theory and practice. Beyond our handbooks, you can find other inspiring practice and impulses from all over the world, mostly in English-language. The library will be updated regularly. Send us your proposal.

Competendo.training
The success of competency-centered education is highly dependent on the style of facilitation and the attitude of facilitators. Professionalism is, in this sense, the challenge to connect:
- attitudes - the appreciative, needs oriented, moderating, collaborative, participative and inspiring management of group processes
- know-how for planning and managing learning processes
- knowledge about modern approaches and competency centered concepts of learning
The Competendo team is offering tailor-made concepts. Competendo training is for train-the-trainer, teacher trainings and those experienced in other kind of capacity building in the fields of formal and non-formal education. What we promote in our toolboxes and handbooks is also what we expect from ourselves.

Competendo's Journey
Five organizations active in citizenship education from four European countries created Competendo in 2015. They were motivated by their own facilitation practices, inspired by the approaches of Theodor-Heuss-Kolleg, a program of Robert Bosch Stiftung and saw their need to structure their own experiences and share it with the public. MitOst (coordinator, DE), Ideas Factory (BG), SKORO (PL), Südwind (AT) and Working Between Cultures (DE) built the online platform between 2015 and 2018 in cooperation with facilitators, educators, and experts from around Europe. Since 2019, DARE - Democracy and Human Rights Education in Europe - coordinates Competendo.
