The Global Cube

The "Global Cube" was developed by Nikolaus Schröck and Annette Scheunpflug. It suggests, that during a successful learning process three layers (each with four sublayers) shall be addressed. These layers try to focus on different aspects, which are important for a proper understanding of the globalized World in the 21st century.

Layer 1: Dimension of Space

The Dimension of Space can be addressed in many topics. They are (on the example of consumption):

1. Local (e.g. how does my consumption influence the local development)
2. National (e.g. how does my consumption influence the national development)
3. Regional (e.g. how does my consumption influence the regional development)
4. Global (e.g. how does my consumption influence the global development and which parts of the World in particular)

Layer 2: Dimension of Global Justice

In many of the topics we cover in our trainings or education at schools, topics can be reviewed according to the following global dimensions (on the example of the topic consumption):

1. Environmental (e.g. how does our consumption influence environmental issues)
2. Development (e.g. how does our consumption influence the development of "less developed" countries)
3. Interculturality (e.g. how is our consumption influenced by cultural influences)
4. Peace (e.g. how does our consumption influence the situation of war and peace in certain regions)

Layer 3: Dimension of competences

In a work accoding to the standards of the "global cube" we would address the skills and attitudes of our participants regarding the following frames:

1. Personal skills (e.g. empathy)
2. Communication skills (e.g. active listening)
3. Methodological skills (e.g. to develop by joining a simulation game)
4. Topic-wise skills (depending on the topic you work on)
